See You Latte

I love specialty coffees. Second Cup and Starbucks offer an array of tempting treats that are usually too good to pass by. From Starbucks I enjoy the Pumpkin Spice Latte... mmmm...pumpkin pie and whipped cream in a cup! At Second Cup I usually get the Caramel Corretto drizzled with delicious caramel sauce. And lately I've been indulging in the London Fog (tea latte) which is really tasty too!

But my coffee treat days must come to an end, for a couple of reasons:
1 - It's ridiculously expensive. Scott and I each got a tea latte the other day (medium) and spent almost $9. Nine dollars!!! For two cups of tea with a bit of milk!! If only it weren't so delicious...

2 - Boy, are the special coffees ever bad for you. It's like drinking down a Big Mac, coffee style. If I wanted to get more bang for my caloric buck, I'd eat the Big Mac, hands down. I have an old article from CBC that breaks down these drinks and their caloric contents, and I think I will have to forego my weekly (sometimes biweekly) coffee and grab a glass of water instead. (If you'd like to check out the article, click here to read it.)

Specialty coffees will become rare special treats. With all the money I'll be saving I may just invest in a little battery operated frother and I can make my own version of the London Fog in the comfort of my own home, for a fraction of the cost.

Hmmm, maybe I should head out and just have one more, final latte...see you!
