Well this is the first year in my history that I have completed no Christmas shopping/preparations just a week before the big day! Unfortunately work has sapped all my energy and time over the last few months and time has just continued to fly by despite my pleas for it to slow down and let me catch up! I'm also "as big as a house" according to a coworker and friend...lol, so it's harder to get around, that's for sure. Despite being slow and tired all the time, I'm really looking forward to the Christmas break and spending time with my family. I am enjoying our last few weeks as a family of 3 before the new little bundle arrives and with him/her...chaos! ;)
Annika sat on Santa's lap this year and did fantastic. Last year's visit to Santa resulted in tears and terror...but this year she was waving excitedly as he entered the room and went right up there and sat with him. When asked what she wants for Christmas, she replied with confidence, "I want presents". So there you have it, she's a material girl already, at the tender age of 2. Just kidding! It's cute...we're enjoying her so much. She's a precious gift to us, and we're so happy to see there have been some improvements in the temper tantrums that have been frequenting our home as of late.
Next week is her last week at the dayhome before staying home with Mommy full time. I think she'll miss her little friends and especially her care provider...she's so good with Annika. But on to a new stage...now little Annika can be my helper with the new baby (I'll let you know how that goes!)
I hope you are all looking forward to some rest and some time with your loved ones. I know I am...if I'm not on here before the big day, Merry Christmas all!

One month to go!
Christmas is one month away. It just came up on me so quickly! I'm not ready...still have to do Christmas shopping and baking, so hopefully I can figure out when to fit that in. I am happy to say that our Christmas tree is up and I've got some decorations out. That's a start! We're having some friend's over this weekend to start the season off...I'm looking forward to that. Lots to do before then, so it's a good thing it's my Friday!
The last few weeks have been orry stressful for me. Lots of deadlines/stress at work and I'm just getting so tired, it's hard to keep my head above water. I just keep telling myself that the end is in sight...just a few more weeks. I'm so looking forward to meeting this new little person. Can't wait! :) Annika is excited to be a big sister...I think she's going to do just fine. There will definitely be an adjustment period, but I think she'll adjust quickly and be my little helper.
Today at work my coworkers surprised me with a cake and gifts. U2 was si thoughtful of them...I'm blessed to work with such a great group of people! :) They even got Annika gifts (she was tickled pink)!! It was a very nice surprise and I was so excited that these were the first things we've gotten for our new addition. I haven't purchased anything yet. We haven't even thought of names yet...it's just been too hectic. I think that's stressing me out too... I want to start nesting! ;)
Hope you're all having a great week!

The Countdown
Just under 2 months and Christmas will be here...I love Christmas and can't wait to start doing Christmas baking, shopping, decorating, etc. I'm hoping that I can get into the swing of things in mid November. I just need to get through a super busy period at work over the next couple weeks and then hopefully I'll be able to start handing things over at work and start prepping for baby and Christmas. We still haven't really thought about names and I have to get the baby's room done and fix up Annika's room with her big girl furniture (which I haven't purchased yet).
My little helper went into work with me today (which as you can imagine, wasn't that helpful). But I couldn't arrange childcare today and I had to do a few things in the office, so in she went with me. She was really good and i got a couple things done. I'll still have to work this weekend, but that's ok. I've decided I'm not doing any more work this afternoon/evening. I'm going to get some other things done like laundry and maybe some cleaning. Work will still be there tomorrow when Daddy can take the munchkin off my hands. Oh, and one countdown I'm very happy about is 28 more work days in the office. Then i have a few more that I'll be working from home, but nothing too crazy! Yay!
We picked up a couple small pumpkins, so we'll be carving those at some point this weekend. Perhaps after A wakes up from her nap. She's going to be a strawberry fairy this year for Halloween and is very excited about her costume. It'll be cute, that's for sure.
I hope you all have a fantastic weekend!

Isn't my girl precious?! She's getting so big.
Speaking of supper, I'm waiting for my wonderful hubby to come back from the grocery store right now with some stuff for us to cook up! I can't wait...I'm starving!! ;) My appetite has increased tremendously with this pregnancy...at times I wonder how I fit it all in. But I'm hungry often and I can definitely eat a lot. I will get the results of my 2nd gestational diabetes testing this week (I failed the first) and I'm certain that I will have it again with this pregnancy. I don't look forward to pricking my fingers 3 times each day, but a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do. In this case I have to lay off all the unhealthy stuff I eat (bye bye chips..sniff) and start chowing down on more veggies. This evening I plan on making a meal plan for the next couple weeks, so hopefully that helps me sort out my meals. I really wish I didn't have to work any more this year so I could do other things that I have on my list. Work is such a nuisance...haha! But the money in the bank sure does help with the bills, doesn't it?
Hope you all had a great Sunday. Enjoy the sunshine while it's still here!
Look at that - two blog posts in a row. Wow.

Fall Days
It's been a lovely, busy, full month so far. We're halfway through October and the leaves are slowly accumulating on my lawn, waiting for me to head out there and rake them up. And of course for Annika to play in them and mess up anything I manage to get into piles! I am hoping to get a bit of yard work done tomorrow while the weather holds up. Before we know it the white stuff will be falling and that'll make it tough to do any yard clean-up!
We've had a couple weddings over the last 3 or 4 weeks...our good friends Jamie & Sandy got married the first weekend in October and it was such a beautiful wedding. The couple looked stunning and the love they have for each other and for their families/friends was so heartfelt and really touched me. I admit I had leaky eyes a number of times throughout the day. Annika went to their outdoor wedding as well and of course decided to throw a lovely, well-timed 2-yr old tantrum right in the middle of their vows. Yikes. We were so embarassed. Scott did his best to rush her away, but it's hard when you're outside...especially when your daughter has an impressive set of lungs with a piercing shriek.
There has been a lot going on in our home over the last couple months. Work has been busy for me...I'm on a project that is getting super busy, so that's been sucking a lot of energy out of me. I get tired pretty easily these days...(by the way, we have baby #2 on the way)! I'm just in my 3rd trimester now and I'm feeling it. We're in the home stretch now! Time to get the baby's room ready and do my nesting! ;)
What else? I've been surfing the net and checking out a bunch of yummy looking recipes. I was tossing around the idea of making cinnamon rolls tomorrow...mmm. But then I came across a delicious looking pumpkin cinnamon twist pancake recipe and I think I'll try that out.
Hope you've all had a fantastic start to fall. I've got a list 5 miles long that i need to get going on before this baby comes. Here's some stuff:
1 - get Annika some bedroom furniture so I can set up the baby's room with her current set
2 - get winter tires on the van (I hear it's going to be a brutal winter...ugh!)
3 - decide about our stroller situation - do I get a double stroller? stay with one and just let A walk? I dunno. I may wait this one out and see how things go
4 - finish setting up my basement with all my craft stuff...need my outlet!
5 - start-up my sewing night with a good group of ladies
6 - figure out some names for the little bun in the oven
7 - make my own pumpkin spice latte as a treat
8 - do some serious meal planning for the next few weeks
9 - plan our annual Christmas open house (although I confess I'm probably going to be lazy this year and do it potluck style...I know, it's shameful, but a lot less tiring)
10 - repaint baby's room?
11 - book family photo session...this needs to be done ASAP
12 - start Christmas lists/shopping
Ok...I am going to try to get back into the swing of things blog-wise. Work sure does get into the way of life, doesn't it? ;)
Happy weekend all,

Summer Vacation...
from blogging! I've taken some time off from posting on my blog. I can't say that I'm the most dedicated poster, that's for sure, and it's harder to post in the summer months. There are so many other things I'd rather do with my time than sit at the computer or go online on my phone. :)
It's so nice that we've finally had some decent weather here these last few days/week. It's been gorgeous out! We've had birthday parties and baby showers that we've been busy with and this month, and now we've just finished a week`s vacation. We enjoyed some time outdoors and did some relaxing. I am so happy that we were able to take some time off last week. These last few weeks have been particularly busy for us - work is getting really busy for me so it was nice to "play hooky" and get away from the hustle and bustle.
My little sweet-pea turned 2 this month!! Wow! I`m amazed at how much she has changed and the new things that she's learned. It's so neat to watch...we're enjoying it thoroughly. The temper tantrums and crazy loud outbursts, well...they may not be the most fun! ;)
Before I sign off, here are some pictures of the big bday bash!

June
Oh boy, half the year is just about gone! Scary, isn't it? I'm finding it difficult to sit down and blog...just haven't felt the blogging urge lately, so I'll just go with it. I'm going to hit the sack a bit early tonight and read a book, so I figure I'll squeeze a post in and then I'll sign out until the next time I feel like it!
Scott's been away on a business trip for a few days, so it's been quiet here. Well, that's not true...it's been just as loud with the little toddler running around, but I guess it's been slower. I don't feel so bad about not making a big supper when I get home from work, which is nice. Tonight we had bowls of chicken soup, and it was easy and quick. Just my cup of tea. Particularly when my dad made us the homemade soup...it was so tasty! :) He brought it over on the weekend when he cut the lawn for me. Wow - I am a lucky daughter! I've been blessed with a very giving, considerate father and in-laws. They're always helping out! What a treat!
I'm tired today. Maybe it's because it's a Monday. Maybe it's because I'm a bit down and out. I sure hope we're doing a good job raising our little munchkin. I worry about that. I remember my mom telling me that when she and my dad were raising us as children they kept in mind that they would always love Marc and me....they wanted to raise me so that others would love us as well. I think they did a great job raising us. I just hope I am doing ok too. Days like today I wish my mom was still here. There's nothing like chatting over insecurities and fears and hopes and dreams with your mom, is there? For those of you who have your mothers - appreciate them!! :)
I think the catalyst of my worry is just the whole toddler stage Annika is in right now. I have to stop and remind myself that this will pass (at least, it better pass!!!) and that I'm not alone. I sure hope I'm not the only one dealing with a difficult toddler, tantrums, attitude, crying fits, etc. Sigh. I love Annika - no question. She is my joy, my heart. But some days....boy oh boy, she tries my patience!! ;) A few days ago I was shocked when I asked her to do something and she replied with "No! Leave me alone, Mommy!" Say what?! She isn't even 2 yet!!! I'm amazed she used it perfectly in context, but I was SO not impressed!! And I have no idea where she picked it up. Today her caregiver told me that she had a challenging day with Annika, who spent a good deal of time "whacking" others. Not good. I am glad she's not biting/pulling hair, but I am sad that I have a little terror! Annika was on the receiving end of bites, scratches and pinches from one of the other girls and it's not fun. I sure hope we can curb this behaviour soon. My parents always told me that I was a headstrong, stubborn, independent toddler/child/teen/young adult....oh dear....this doesn't bode well for me. But I did ask my dad when he was over if I was as strong-willed as Annika and he said he doesn't think so. Sigh.
I'll be happy to have my hubby home this weekend. It's Father's Day and so we'll celebrate him and what a wonderful daddy he is to Annika. She misses him and will be so excited to see him when we pick him up at the airport. But for purely selfish reasons I'm happy he's coming so that I maybe can have a rest one evening. Maybe he'll be able to put her to bed one night and I'll just laze or something!
Hope you're all having a great week.

Another Day...At Home
It's been a while since I've posted...it's been a busy (sick) week. Annika came down with a bad cold last week and I spent half of the week home with a sick little one. Wednesday night was the worst - she developed croup and was a pretty sick little girl. Thursday got her in to her paediatrician and he said her throat was really raw. i felt so bad - nothing I could do to make her feel better. So we spent a couple days just cuddled up administering what the doctor prescribed - lots of TLC! Then, just as she was starting to feel a bit better...I got sick! Boo! So I've had a sore throat and a cough, and of course I now have laryngitis. After going in to work this morning I ended up picking Annika up at lunchtime and we're home now. Neither of us was quite ready to get back at it, I guess.
I was happy to see the rain on Sunday...wasn't it nice to hear the patter of rain drops? I thought so. Only sad thing is having to turn on the heat 'cause it got way too cold in our house! Brrrr!
I also just wanted to share that we're 3 days away from this year's Relay for Life in support of the Canadian Cancer Society. Our team is working hard to get as much fundraising as possible...but we still have a way to go before we reach our goal. If you are able, would you consider sponsoring me or Team Dawn in our Relay? If so, please feel free to click the link below and it will take you to my page. I am 75% of the way to my goal of $1,500...almost there!! Thanks so much!

This year we are participating in the Sherwood Park relay and I think it's going to be a really nice evening! I'm looking forward to spending a great night out with friends. I'll have pictures to share with you post event.
Hope you're all having a great week. I'm going to try to shake this sickness so I can get back to normal!

It's nap time here. A banana/pear loaf is baking in the oven, wind is howling outside and I'm snug as a bug inside. It's a nice afternoon...I'm going to blog quickly while I have a chance before A wakes up and then I'm off to clean up some dishes and change the laundry. Scott is out golfing (not sure how successful they'll be with this wind) and I'm hoping he's having a great afternoon with his friend!
Yesterday I got a case of food poisoning. It was a pretty yucky night for me, and unfortunately the symptoms started when we were out last night at a friend's birthday party (of course - rotten timing!) I was pretty sick at their place and after about a half hour I was able to pull myself together and drag myself to the van to get home. It wasn't a pleasant experience, that's for sure. I had the chills, cramping, vomiting, diarrhea - basically the works! Yuck. I like to try and see the bright side of things though, and this morning the silver lining on my cloud of sickness was that I lost almost 2 lbs. Haha!! So I am pleased to announce that I have now lost 10 pounds!! :) I'd rather not lose any more via sickness, so I'm taking it easy today and hoping to get 100% better. I'm still feeling a bit under the weather. Hopefully by tomorrow I'll be good to go.
I also wanted to share how pleased I am with my munchkin's vocabulary! It sure is coming along...she's doing really well at forming her sentences now (although sometimes only Mommy/Daddy understand her!) I'm so impressed...although now she's really learning to talk back. Yikes! Today I was putting her pants on and she said "no Mommy...I do self". Haha...she really is just like me! I recall my mom telling me that I wanted to do absolutely everything myself - my way. I think I'm going to pay for that now. :) She also says things like "no, I not eat" and "No, I not share". Oh boy. So...I'm just hoping and praying that good social graces and manners follow quickly in the footsteps of her expanding vocabulary. That said, I love that little thing to bits. She's precious and we thank God for her every day - temper tantrums and all. She is a real blessing to me and I'm so thankful. Some days I'm just shocked at how much she's growing, learning, doing. It's so fast. I love this parenting ride!!
Hope you all have a wonderful week!

Windy city
Boy has it ever been windy here! Thank goodness the sun's still shining and the temperature is nice and warm, otherwise it'd be pretty miserable. Hope you're all having a great week! I'm off today and tomorrow (yay!) and have lots to do this weekend. Today Annika and I are going out to meet our friends for a playdate at an indoor playground - should be fun! I think we'll be following up with some lunch and then home for nap time. My dad will be leaving tomorrow for BC for another little holiday, so he's going to be stopping by tonight and dropping off Pepper again. She'll be staying with us for a week or two.
Yesterday some friends and I put on a bake sale at work for the Relay for Life, and it went pretty well! We raised almost $217 towards our team fundraising goal - not so bad for some baked goods, right? I tell you what though, it was pretty hard to bake all those delicious items, put them out and not eat any!! And then I brought home some leftovers and they're sitting on my counter!! Boo! It's ok though, I'm going to treat myself to a coffee today and I'm going to be good. Today I should be starting cycle 2 of my diet, but I've decided to postpone my start for a few days. I would like to be down 10 lbs by the start of cycle 2, and right now I'm only down 8.7...so I'm almost there!! :) I'm pretty happy with the weight loss so far, but I'm still not feeling like it's a big change yet. My clothes aren't feeling that much looser, so I think I'll keep going and see if a few more lbs helps.
We have a birthday party to go to this weekend for a friend of ours and I want to do some planting and gardening this weekend...let's hope I can get around to all of that plus the housework! Yikes...
Hope you all have a great day...

Hope you all have a great day...

I blew it...
...and it was worth it!! Despite a great start to my day, diet-wise, I flopped bigtime in the evening. After my delicious lunch out with the husband, I headed home and finally got Annika down for a nap. During her nap I took advantage of the spare time and spent some time on the elliptical (yay me!) and then started getting ready for the evening. Scott was invited out to a wine & tapas event and he wanted me to go along as well. I had a sneaky suspicion this would not end up a healthy evening for me...and my hunch was bang on!
We got to the "wine room" and I decided I would have one glass of wine (I didn't want to be rude, after all), but that I wouldn't touch any tapas. Well, never mind that!! I ended up indulging in some delicious prawns au gratin...Mmmmm! And another glass of wine...or two. Sigh. Then I decided to top it all off with a treat from DQ on my way home!! OH NOOOOO!! Why do I do these things?!? Ah well, I just have to get back on track, right? Although, tomorrow is Mother's Day...I should be allowed to indulge in a teensy weensy bit of tasty treats, shouldn't I?
Today I had 2 poached eggs and an apple for breakfast, and then some tuna and a pickle for lunch. (Oh, and I may have had a couple potato chips!) I suppose I may as well confess it all. That's it - I promise! :)
Ok, now I'm off to finish my housecleaning. Just have to wash the floors and do some reorganizing in the kitchen. Laundry's almost done and bathrooms are done. Just need to do some vacuuming upstairs after Annika's awake, and that'll be it for me!
Chao for now,

Mother's Day...a bit early!
It's been a great day so far! This morning my little love and I went to an indoor playground and she had some fun exploring and playing for a bit. Then we ventured on over to the local library for our weekly visit. We checked out the fish, played on the train, read a couple books and picked up a couple movies that were on hold for us! (Annika's going to enjoy watching one of her Disney picks this evening!) Scott called me while I was at the library and asked if we wanted to go for lunch with him - of course we did! So we made our way over at noon and Scott surprised me with the most beautiful vase of flowers! They're absolutely gorgeous and if only I could somehow bottle the lovely fragrance of the roses - wow! I'm a lucky wife/mommy. Yesterday Annika made me a Mother's Day card - I was so excited to receive my very first card from my little munchkin. You may notice she had a teensy weensy bit of help with the writing...haha! She also painted a little flower pot for me and it's full of dirt with some great wildflower seeds just waiting to start sprouting. Ahh...what a wonderful start to my special weekend. What more could I ask for?

Day 10
One week left of the first cycle of my diet!! We'll see how I fare on the scale tomorrow morning. I'm down 6.4 now...I'm hoping I can get down another 4 or 5 lbs before I start cycle 2. I'm so excited to get on to the second cycle...I'll be able to add back a while bunch of lovely foods I've been missing...lean red meat, done delicious grains and starches. Mmmm. It's going to be a good week next week. I just hope my journey in weight loss continues. Tonight I made greek chicken burgers stuffed with some feta cheese. They were pretty good, although a teensy bit dry, which I expected. My friend Jamie is on the diet too (we both started last Monday) and he's down almost 10 lbs!! Yay Jamie!!
Finally filed our taxes...yay! Did that on the 2nd just in time to meet the deadline. My dad is home now...he's been over and picked up Pepper. I'm sure she's happy to be home in her own house. Dad is looking tanned and I think he really enjoyed Costs Rica.
Hope you are having a great week!

Historic weekend
Quite the weekend...a royal wedding, OBL is dead, and election day today! Wow...lots going on. Hope you got the chance to get out and vote. We did this evening after a quick bite of supper. It may be a closer election this time around...who knows, although I'm guessing it'll be a Conservative win. Let's see if it's a majority.
Hope you all had a fabulous weekend. We had a good one. Scott did a ton of yard work and the backyard is looking great! Now we just need some leaves to sprout! This weekend is Mother's Day! Yay! I'm hoping to get a bit of planting done in my planters...some flowers here and there. I love gardening...I'm not great at it, but I really enjoy it.
So, as of this morning I'm down exactly 6 lbs in one week. Yay! I'm almost halfway there, and I'm feeling great! I think I'll probably stick with this diet. I like it.
Hope you all have a great week...it's a busy one for me. Better than being bored, I suppose!

Mmmmm...ground chicken!
So...to report on days 4&5...last night we ended up going out for supper. I thought I could get a yummy chicken & veggie platter at a vietnamese restaurant in the mall (west ed). We'd been to Hoang Long once before it was renovated a month or so ago, and I remembered it as being ok. So off we went...to a dining experience of pure disappointment. :( They didn't have what I wanted, and screwed up scott's order so he asked for it to be fixed (they brought nuts on his, when he asked for no nuts). They took it back and never bothered to being him a replacement. We won't be going there again, needless to say. Service was sub-par and good was not worth the price. My meal was half lukewarm. Boo. Anyways...because they didn't have any veggie/chicken options, I settled for a vermicelli bowl and gave Annika half of my noodles. So I ended up cheating on my diet, and it wasn't even worth it - what a drag! This morning I was still down another .2 lbs (whew, what a relief!)
Today was a pretty good day. Had scrambled eggs for brekkie, yogurt and berries for a snack (while watching the wonderful royal wedding...more on that in a bit)! Lunch was out with Aunty Heather at boston pizza...i had their Chopped Chicken Salad and it was good, and healthy. This afternoon I made a delicious supper! It was a herbed chicken loaf with ground chicken, sauteed veggies, greek seasoning, egg, miracle whip, and some fine bread crumbs. I baked it in a loaf pan for an hour and ten mins. Also cooked up a yummy pan of roasted veggies as a side. I sliced up the loaf and for scott, put his serving in a pita with tomatoes, cucumbers and tzatziki. It's almost like a healthy version of a donair, and if you want to check out the recipe and try it for yourself, you can check out the recipe, Ground Chicken Loaf, at The Cookbook Junkie's blog. Mmmm. Mine was sans pita, and it was scrumptious. Then for dessert...me nothing, and scott had some of the banana bread I made plus some ice cream. We'll see how the weekend eats go...I'll keep you posted.
Now, how about that wedding?! Anybody tune in? I woke up at 630 before any alarm, excited to watch it. (Yeah, I know it started at 4...i love my pvr!) I have to say, Kate was absolutely stunning, don't you agree? Her dress was not what I was expecting...i pictured a slightly sleeker dress, but her gown totally grew on me. I think it was perfect. Perfect for the fairytale princess and the fairytale wedding!! I loved it. I'm sure that the wedding will be one of (if not THE) most watched televised programs ever. I really think the mutual love and respect the couple has for each other was evident during their exchange of vows, in the carriage ride, and certainly on the balcony when they shared a kiss (or two!!) It's nice to see such beautiful celebration...what a refreshing change to the usual sad news on tv. I'm glad I watched it...did any of you?
Happy Friday all!

Days 2 and 3
Ok, 3 days down and i'm still here! ;) I'm not feeling too bad so far, not feeling like I'm starving all the time, although I must admit I'm feeling pretty tired. I think that's for a totally different reason though (forgot to take my synthroid for the last half hear...it's catching up with me!)
Yesterday's menu:
Breakfast - Yogurt & berries
Snack - apple
Lunch - lemon pepper tuna & mixed salad with veggies
Supper - Grilled salmon, grilled veggies, leftover "mashed taters"
Today's:
So, end of day 3 and I'm down 3.6 lbs. WOW! :) Who knows what the scale will say next week, but I'm hoping I don't blow it...we'll see what happens!
One more day of work for me...yay!

Day 1
Hello all...
Hope you had a fantastic Easter weekend. Annika's dayhome is closed today, so I'm at home with her...lucky me!! :) We went grocery shopping this morning and now I'm having a little bit of quiet time while Annika has a little snooze. I think I'll dive into my book next...I love reading. I don't know about you, but I enjoy weekly trips to the library where A and I pick through the piles of books and find some new reading treasures to bring home for a week or two. She has her own little library card now, and she loves going to the library and visiting the fish and checking out books. It's certainly a more cost effective way to read all your favourite books!
Well, today is Day 1 of my diet. We'll see how this goes. So far, I'm not starving, which is a good thing considering I'm only half a day into it! I want to lose between 20-30 lbs. It's doable, I think! Anyways, here's what I've had so far and I'll plan out the rest of my meals too.
Breakfast - scrambled eggs (2) and tomatoes and a glass of water
Snack - 1 apple
Lunch - tuna (lemon & dill), celery, cucumbers and brussel sprouts, green tea
Snack - strawberries
Supper - Balsamic Mustard Chicken & Cauliflower Mashed "Potatoes"
Dessert - chocolate yogurt
So that's the meal for today. I'm also taking advantage of being home today and planning what I'll take for lunch tomorrow to work. Easier to have it all planned out instead of rushing around like crazy!
I'll try to check in tomorrow too...it'll keep me honest!

Thank goodness for long weekends
Technically, I guess I have a long weekend every week since I only work Monday - Thursday, but I still like long weekends. It means my little family is home together and we can do what we like with the day. I need that. It was a challenging week. Lots of issues and headaches. So I'm not sad to say goodbye to this week and look forward to resting and relaxing. And of course I'll try to get some housework done too!
My dad is on his way to Costa Rica this evening, so he was over tonight for supper and brought his dog, Pepper over. She's going to have a week long sleepover here...and the poor thing has a really tough time walking around on hardwood (which we have all over our main floor). So we now have area rugs and mats strewn about our hallways so that she can make it from the family room to the kitchen for food and to the door to get outside. LOL. It looks pretty funny! Thank goodness it's temporary.
I haven't done our taxes yet. Oops! I've started them, but haven't finished yet...so it's on my list of things to do this weekend. I'll see if I can finish them up and submit them and hopefully we'll get a little bit back sometime soon!
Have a good one...

Check Up Time
It's check-up time for me. Not just the doctor kind of check-up, although that's on the list of things to do (needles and poking and prodding are on the way for me). I want to take the time to look at my one reflective, somewhat-insightful post and see how far I've come. Have I made any progress? Checked any things off my list of things? If you don't remember, my post in January was contemplative...I was questioning my career choice and trying to figure out what I wanna be when I grow up! (Tongue was definitely in cheek when I wrote that).
So, here goes:
A) Well, it's an ongoing mission, isn't it? To be one's best. To be THE best mom and wife. So...I`ll be honest. I need to work on a bunch of things. I want to be more patient. I want to give the benefit of the doubt. I need to cook healthier meals on a more regular basis...meal planning isn't my favourite thing to do!! :)
B) I am happy to report that I've made great progress in the crafting section! Quilting/sewing equipment is out and being used on a regular basis...with great friends, to boot! My sewing group may meet somewhat irregularly, but hey, we have fun when we do get together! I have completed my little summer dress for Annika and started making a little pillowcase dress for her. If I like it I may even upgrade to cool fabric instead of using a pillowcase! LOL! I started Annika's scrapbook and I'm super happy with the start. I just need to rejig my upstairs craft room to be my paper crafting room. Oooh...this is going to be fun...
C) I haven't found a church yet. Been doing some talking with friends to see if any of their churches are maybes. Now that we're way in the west end I'm reluctant to go to a church that's way in the east. Anybody have a suggestion for me out here in the West?
D) I'm currently reading a non-fiction book that ties in to my new adventure starting next week. I'm going to lose all that extra weight I've been carrying around!! I am planning on blogging about my weight loss journey. Hopefully that helps me blog more regularly, plus I'll document my progress/slip-ups.
E) I just picked up a book from the library today that's all about my camera and its features and how to use it properly! I'm hoping this will set me in the right direction to getting some great shots. I definitely need to take more pictures. I can't believe how quickly my little love it changing.
F) Family visits...we try as often as we can. I think we see family at least once a week. Is that decent? I hope so!
G) I do not want to go back to school. Yuck. But...I may. Probably not anything that involves too much of a time commitment over the coming years. There's a project management designation that I'm considering...it's pretty quick and is self-study. So if I have to do something, I may as well do that, since I'm interested in it.
So overall, I guess I've made some progress, right? It's a start! Let's hope I can keep it up!
Yay, I finally blogged! I think about it often, but just get tired. Oh, an update...I'm in physio now regularly and my back is feeling sooooooo much better, thank goodness. I hope to never have that problem again. I think the physio is working, so I'll keep it up until I'm feeling 100%.
Hope you all are having a great week....yay for short work weeks! Happy Easter to you all...

So Proud
This may be too much information to share with y'all, but I'm going to do it anyway! Ha! My little baby girl did her thing on the POTTY today!!! :) We haven't started "potty training" yet, but we have her potty in the bathroom and sometimes she sits on it and she knows that it's for "peepee". Today at lunch we were just finishing up and she said "poop". So I asked her if she wanted to go to her potty and she said "yeth" and so up we went. I stripped off her pants and diaper and she sat down. We just hung out and she was smiling and then all of a sudden I heard the magical little sounds of tinkling...IN THE POTTY!! So I asked her if she was finished and she said no. So we sat for a few more minutes and then I asked again and took a quick peek...and yup, it was a number 2!!!!! WOW!!! My girl is growing up so fast. I couldn't believe it! I'm so proud of the little turkey.
So I apologize for those who may not be impressed by my "potty mouth". Haha! But I couldn't help it! It's a great start. Maybe we'll actually start the potty training now and buy some pullups for during the day. Wow. It's a big day.
I'm feeling pretty useless today. I had a pretty rough night last night. Learnt my lesson the hard way (i lifted something I shouldn't have and I paid for it dearly). Anyways...today I'm taking it easy and I'm not going to do much in terms of housework or anything. I would like to get some supper on the table for my poor hubby. This is hard on him. He had to pick me up and help me move yesterday (and that's no easy chore, lol). I'm blessed - he's such a good husband. AND...I must give a HUGE shout-out to some wonderful people in my life. My wonderful in-laws, Catherine & John, and my aunt, Audrey, are over at our old place doing the cleaning to get it ready for renting. I should be there doing it...but they're graciously doing it for me...and I appreciate it so much. My dad has been working every week on our place, finishing the painting in the bathroom, putting the finishing touches on, installing flooring, and countless other things. I am blessed with a fantastic father who helps us out all the time. And my lovely friend Heather dropped off a snack for me last night and is always helping us out with watching Annika when we're in a pinch and all sorts of other things. So...thank you my family. Love you all!! :)
Hope everyone out in blogland is having a great Friday...enjoy your weekend!

Pinched
So I've had some pretty bad back pain over the last week...and different than any pain I've had before. A couple weeks ago I came into the house from the garage holding Annika and just turned and something happened...i felt an intense pain in my lower back. Had to drop everything (well I set annika down nicely) and then was on my back laying down on the floor for a while. After a couple days it sort of went away so I thought it was over. Nope. The pain is back, with a vengeance, and unfortunately it's worsening and making it pretty difficult to work (desk job). I've got a couple doctor appts tomorrow...but the chiropractor is pretty sure it's a pinched nerve. Ow! So I've been a bit of a gimp and i'm pretty sure I look funny walking crooked...but that's the way it goes. Anyways...I've shared my pity party with you...i'm sure you aren't visiting my blog to hear me complain!
On to more interesting things...I'm going to make a pillowcase dress next! I have found a few great tutorials online, and when i'm feeling better (let's hope it's soon) I will be starting that project. Our sewing group met on saturday night and it was a good night! Scott has taken to calling it "The Sweatshop", and has devious plans to make us a lucrative venture for him...either that or he's hoping we'll mend his jeans for him. (He's dreaming! :) Way too many other exciting things to do.)
Hope you're all having a great week! Enjoy that sunshine! I'm off to ice my back.

Weekend!
Woo hoo! Weekend has officially arrived and I made it through April Fools unscathed. Yay! Now i'm in my jammies with a blanket...going to have a cup of tea and veg out with my hubby on the couch. We've already gotten a trip to Costco out of the way, Princess auto, done a run to the bottle depot, and washed the vehicle. Not bad.
Tomorrow I need to do some cleaning, organizing, and then it's sewing night! Excellent! I'm craving sangria...may have to test a batch out on the girls tomorrow if I get my act together. Mmmm...that'll make sewing night interesting!
Hope you are all having a fantastic week. Enjoy the beautiful weather!

Month end
I'd forgotten about all the time constraints and pressures that go hand in hand with a lead role on a project. Yuck. I'm sad that month end reporting all us due on Friday this time around, so I'll sadly have to trudge to work on Friday morning. Boo. Has to be done though. It wouldn't be such a big deal if my day home was open, but it's not, so I have to get a sitter for Annika.
Oh, we put our names down on a waiting list for a daycare near our home. I think we're number 57 or something ridiculous like that! So we probably won't be getting a spot at the facility anytime soon. I'm not holding my breath. I'll be sad to move Annika, but she'll adjust quickly, I'm sure.
We've got just a few weeks left to get everything done and sorted at our old place before renters move in ay the end of the month. Yikes. I'd better get on that! My dad is graciously helping with a lot of the stuff we need done, thank goodness. I don't know what we'd do without him. I'm going to be going over and doing a big clean up next weekend and taking a look at what's left to do before they move in.
So it's been busy lately. This month has been crazy and I haven't had the opportunity to do crafting much in spare time...haven't even had time to get together with friends as much as I would've liked. Good friends...you know who you are...I miss you all and we need to get together soon for some good ol' catchin' up.
Hope you're all keeping well. Ohhhhh one thing I did do that i'm pretty excited about. My good friend Lisa had a scrapbooking event last weekend and I went and started Annika's album! Yay! I'll have to show you the cover page I did when I finish a few details. I love it.
Have a great end of week everyone. Enjoy the slushiness of spring!

Spring?!
Well, spring is officially here according to the calendar. But it is certainly not here according to our weather - blech! It's snowy and messy out there...not the ideal spring weather; however, i know we've got it good. Compared to many others who are suffering through the ravages of a tsunami and earthquake, we have little to complain about with respect to the weather and other inconveniences, don't you think?
I applied for a new job within my current company, and then spent many days agonizing over whether it not I should move to a new role. A great opportunity, the role is a step up with a lot to learn...good challenges. Unfortunately, I know that reward comes hand in hand with risk...the risk of lots of overtime and in this particular role, lots of travel. So, I was excited, but pretty worried about what would happen if I actually got it. I really wasn't sure what to do and so was actually kind of relieved when the decision was taken out of my hands. They decided to base the role out of Calgary...and so that's that! I am happy...it worked out for the best. I am pretty sure they will consider me for a similar position if one comes up here locally, which is good.
I realized that I really enjoy my Fridays off with my girl. I plan on enjoying every single friday off for as long as I am able to!
Hope you are all having a wonderful week!

Baby Tag Cube
Tonight was my first sewing group meeting. It turned out only one friend was able to make it, but it turned out just right! Lisa and I had a great night. She worked on a quilt she is making, and I started working on making some baby cubes with little tags. I am really glad Lisa was able to come tonight...it was a good chance to visit and see someone I don't always get a chance to visit with.
Here is a little picture of the cube I made! What do you think? :) I'm happy with it...although I found a couple places where I need to improve on my next try.
Scott and I shuffled things around this afternoon...now we've got a functioning tv and dvd player in the basement! I moved a couple tables down to the basement from my craft room so that we can sew down here and watch some boob tube and not get too noisy and wake up the munchkin!
Well, it's late...i guess we lose an hour tonight, so it's 1:07 am. Yikes! That's the latest I've been up in a while!
Good night all!

Ode To Dyson
Oh. My. Goodness. I cannot express how much I love...LOVE...my new vacuum cleaner. It is amazing. I mean, I knew that our current vacuum just was not doing the job properly, but I was so shocked (and impressed) when I vacuumed the carpet in our family room/den area and the dyson completely sucked up enormous amounts of dog fur, dust, and fuzz!!! Absolutely fantastic! I wish I could've vacuumed the entire house tonight, but time just isn't my friend weekday evenings. Too many things to do...supper to cook, dishes to do, stuff to tidy...and little munchkins to snuggle! I'm sure you all know how it is. Plus, our house isn't tiny anymore...it's definitely a weekend job.
We accomplished quite a bit over the weekend. We did a big overhaul on out pantry/kitchen area. I'm talkin' pulled everything out of the cupboards, rearranged all of it shelving, kitchen counters looked like a hurricane had hit our household. BUT...by the end of the weekend, semblance of order had been restored, thank goodness. We had some help from a new kitchen storage unit from IKEA and from Aunty Heather who spent some time corraling our young'n. ;)
I actually took pictures of the reorganized pantry and still share then with you so you can share in my organized bliss! We have big plans to continue our efforts. I'm going to redo my recipes, Scott wants to improve our spices...right now they're unlabeled in a cupboard. Sooooooooooo....lots to do...but all good stuff that is moving us in the right direction.
This week is our first sewing group meeting!! Yay! I'm totally looking forward to it, although I still haven't moved my stuff around as I intended to...got distracted with the organization! Maybe Friday.
Have a happy week!

Weekend Plans
I love weekends!! I'm up now, waiting for the kettle to boil to have a nice cup of tea. The snow is drifting down lazily outside (ok, maybe I don't love that part of the day) and I'm nice and warm in my house with my family still tucked away asleep. I woke up at 7 and was ready for the day. I've spent the last hour going over some vacuum reviews online just to make sure the vacuum we bought yesterday is the right fit. We'll see when I test it out today. Is it strange that I'm excited to do the vacuuming this morning? :) I'm also reorganizing my pantry and I'm so happy! We bought a bunch of canisters to put stuff in - I'm going to pop out this morning and purchase a few more and then get back to work getting my pantry in shape!
Today we're going for lunch at my Great-Aunt's house - it will be nice to see them. And I know they'll enjoy seeing Annika - she's changed so much since they saw her last. Then this afternoon I'll be going to watch a movie with some friends. That will be nice too!
This evening I want to rejig my crafting space so that it's better suited to have a bunch of ladies over to sew. I was planning on going to IKEA this morning but in light of our lunch appt I figure we'd better not. Instead we'll see what we can do with what we have on hand.
Well, I'm off to make breakfast...I'm thinking pancakes!
Have a great Saturday everyone.

Cleaning Solution
So i'm not a cleaning enthusiast, by any means. But I do enjoy a clean house, and lately I've been interested in using cleaning methods and tools that are less harsh, smelly, and chemically based. And one of the solutions i'm most interested in lately is vinegar! It's been great in the sinks, on windows and glass, and as I read in one of the blogs I follow...it's great as a rinse aid in the dishwasher!
That same blogger has started making her own laundry detergent and dishwashing detergent...and she said her dishes come out sparkling clean and spotless when she uses vinegar...so I think i'll try that out. I'm not quite ambitious enough to make my own cleaning agents, but that's ok. Small steps, right?
Hubby and I also need to purchase a new vacuum cleaner. Our current one sucks...well, I guess it doesn't suck enough, actually. We are considering purchasing a dyson, but i'm reluctant because they are sooooo darn expensive! But, I've heard that they work beautifully, so i'm tempted to go for it. Anybody out there have any vacuum purchase recommendations?
So glad it's the weekend for me...I've got lots to do this weekend. I'm starting a little sewing group and next weekend we'll have our first night, so I want to get things set up. I'm so excited! Here's a few things I want to make:
-cape for Annika
-ribbon cube and receiving blanket set (from a tute I found online)
-cloth baby book
-capri and eyelet shirt set for A
-diaper holder and changing mat for a gift
-toys (stuffed bears, penguin, etc)
-sock monkey
That's my list of things I want to make right now. Let's see how I do now!
On a work note...I've been assigned to a project...and I have the sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach that my 4 day work week still be drawing to a close i'm the near future. That saddens me. I really enjoy my fridays at home with my little monkey. Ah well, such is life, I suppose. I'll be thankful for the time I did get with get, and I'll just enjoy whatever time I have left as a part-time employee.
Hope you all have a fantastic Friday!!

Just call me Suzie
Over the weekend I managed to do a little bit of baking. Saturday evening I used up some older bread and made a yummy bread pudding. I took some pictures of the pudding ready to go in the oven...just need to download them. Unfortunately, I will not be able to show you any pictures of the finished yummy goodness...i forgot, and then it got gobbled up!
Then on Sunday I was reading my friend Sandy's blog and she mentioned that she had made cornbread and that made me want to bake some too...so I did!! I found a great recipe on allrecipes and it turned out great. Perfectly moist and just the right amount of sweetness...mmmm.
One last little treat I made...i froze some bananas on popsicle sticks and then put a lovely coating of chocolate on and popped them back in the freezer...yay! Haven't tried them yet, but I think they'll be yummy...and i'm hoping Annika will enjoy them as a little treat to help with her teething. I also had leftover chocolate so i dipped a few strawberries that I had in the fridge in the chocolate....yum! All sorts of treats in the fridge and freezer for us to enjoy in the coming days.
Anyone out there doing any baking?? I'm also trying to figure out my next project. I've got some ideas...going to be fun!

Random Goodies
Time for some random pictures...
These are from the first weekend in January when we got a HUGE dump of snow...it was crazy!
Now that's a tall pile of snow!
Then, just a few short weeks later, we had nice enough weather that we were able to splish splash in puddles. Annika loved splashing around in her new rubber boots!
We've discovered that Annika loves cleaning...unfortunately I doubt this will be the case when she's old enough to make cleaning part of her chores! :) She loves wiping things down with her cloth and when she discovered the broom she has a great time "sweeping" the floors for Mommy.
Sweeping the floor
Cleaning is fun!!
Hope you've all had a great weekend. I got sick on Friday and just felt really tired and flu-like, and I've had a yucky sore throat. Today I have more energy, thankfully, but I'm still not 100%. Throat is still sore...I'm going to take it easy today. I'm off to make a batch of playdough for the little one. We've just been playing barbies (I got my old barbie collection down for Annika to check out). Oh the memories...I used to spend a lot of time playing barbies with my friends. Such fun!
Have a great week all.

TA DA!!
I'm proud to present the first dress I've ever sewn. It's not perfect, by any means. But I'm just ignoring the flaws, since it's my first piece, and I'm choosing to focus on the fact that it's DONE!! And I did it myself!! Woo hoo!
Ok, enough already. Here it is!
The Front
The Back
Love the polka dot trim!!
Annika modelling her dress - should fit her this summer! Ignore the jammies underneath!
Sooo...what do you think?? I'm pretty excited about sewing. I am really looking forward to my next project! I've been searching for cool sewing blogs and I found a crafty blog that I'm very interested in...you should check out Creating from the Heart to see what Melissa has going on, and check out a great chance to win a cool prize!
Have a good weekend everyone...I'm heading to costco to pick up a few things. I've got lots to do this weekend, but I've got a good headstart so far. Bathrooms are cleaned, laundry's started, bread pudding is next on the list after shopping.

Sew Happy!
I'm "sew" happy! I've completed my first sewing project of the year! :) I finished Annika's little summer dress this evening, and I'm pretty happy with the results. I will post pictures of it tomorrow...lighting isn't great tonight, and frankly i'm too sleepy to get up and get the camera! I really enjoyed working with my new sewing machine, and i'm looking forward to making the next project. Ooooh, right....not until I've finished mending all those jeans! Lol.
Hope you are all having a great week...i'm done going to work for this week...yay! Hope I can get lots of cleaning done tomorrow.

Marine Fun
We spent some time this weekend enjoying the Sea Life Caverns experience at west edmonton mall. It was a great time! Not only was it free (scott got free passes for our family at christmas from his work), it was quite entertaining and something that neither Scott not I had done before. We started out at the marine life show underneath the sea lions. We saw penguins, huge turtles, sharks, and even got to touch some sting rays!
After we finished up in the aquarium area, we headed up to watch the sea lion show. It was a great little show full of entertainment...those sea lions are pretty smart! And they're huge! I think Annika really enjoyed her afternoon. I know we did!
Hope your work week started off well. I think my next post may contain pictures of my almost finished sewing project!

Family
It's a lovely thing, a long weekend, isn't it? That one extra day is the perfect opportunity to stuff one additional day of fun, naps, family snuggles, and yummy meals together with your loved ones. And it's particularly fitting this weekend...family day weekend!
We will be doing some family activities this weekend...tomorrow we're taking Annika to the sea life caverns and the sea lion show. We're also meeting Scott's family in the morning for breakfast. It will be a nice day. A day full of good memories that I'm sure I will tuck away in corners of my heart; happy memories that will help dull the grief of another family day without my mom.
I can't help but think about where I was two years ago. Sitting in a room at the cross cancer institute...watching my mom slowly slip away from us. I remember that feeling of dread in the pit of my stomach, knowing the inevitability of what was coming...and wanting to rewind time to when mom was healthy, happy, and full of life. When we had no idea what was heading our way. Cancer. Just hearing the word is enough to send chills down my spine. And so many families have been affected by cancer - nowadays it's hard to find anyone who hasn't been touched by it in some way or another.
Tomorrow marks the second anniversary of my mom's death. So many people miss her. She was a special lady; good friend to many, wonderful wife, daughter, sister...and to me, the most wonderful mother. I was blessed with an incredible woman for a mother...and I will always miss her.
This year we will again be participating in the Relay For Life in support of the Canadian Cancer Society. I will be posting more info about this in the coming days so that you can all follow along and see how we're doing!
I hope you all enjoy your family days with your loved ones!! I have been working on my sewing...and annika's little dress is coming along. I'll post pictures soon!

The Anniversary I missed
Not to worry. I didn't miss our wedding anniversary...I've got another half a year or so to make sure I remember. I forgot my one year anniversary of blogging! I may not have made it to a high level blogger status, considering that I rarely managed to post on a daily basis; however, I guess I have to start somewhere, right?!
I have to say that I have truly enjoyed the blogging experience. It's a great way to get things off my chest, share some of my creative pursuits, and do some writing (something I'd like to do more of). The added bonus for me is having a record to reflect on in the coming years.
Thank you for reading my blog and sharing the last year with me. Hope you will continue in my blogging journey with me.

Love Day
For Valentines day this year, I decided that it was time to do a little role reversal. Instead of having Scott plan a romantic night out on the town for us, I decided to do little planning of my own for the special love of my life. I wanted to do something that he would really appreciate...so I decided to forego flowers and chocolates and instead opted to turn the celebration into a real "blast"!
On saturday evening I took him out to a movie while Aunty Heather watched the munchkin. We saw The Green Hornet...it was ok. Not the best movie we've ever seen, but good for a laugh. We enjoyed a lovely bucket full of margarine drenched popcorn (mmmmmm). Aren't those movie calories delicious?!
Then on Sunday afternoon, Nana and Grandpa came over to spend the afternoon with little A while I whisked Scott off for a little afternoon adventure. He was pretty excited when he discovered we were going to the Wild West Shooting range! Scott's family had a yearly shooting competition where they try to hit the marks...so this was right up his alley. I shot with him because I knew he really wanted me to join him. So we shot a Beretta and some other big rifle thing. I think I did ok...although Scott thinks I missed the mark a few times. Ah well...i did it for him.
We followed up our manly excursion with a nice meal out and some shopping.
Now for today. Well, I thought I had everything covered until I was driving annika to the dayhome and realized I forgot to dress her in pink or red...oops. She wears pink our red all the time, but of course today had to be the day that I forgot. Then when we got there and I got her coat off one of the little girls came over and gave her a valentine with a chocolate. Errr. Uh oh. And then the other little girl came over to delivery a valentine for annika. Double uh oh. Oh no!!! I ruined valentines!! I didn't even think about annika needing to exchange valentines. She's only one and a half for crying out loud!!! Sigh. So I got to work and I did what any self respecting mommy would do...i doing a hot pink file folder and cut out three little hearts and made some valentines. Then I zipped over and bought individually wrapped little cupcakes for the little tykes. I whipped over and dropped them off and I feel much better! Wish I had taken a pic, because they actually turned ot really sweet! Could hardly tell I used office supplies! Lol! :)
Hope you all had a love filled day!

Little Baby's Not So Little
Well, Annika spotted her old car seat in the basement while we were playing today and she wanted "on". So I put her in her seat as best I could and tried to put the straps on...no go. My little munchkin has grown! We had her 18 month immunizations and her doctor checkup in the last couple weeks, and it's official: we have ourselves a healthy toddler. The pediatrician said she will likely be one of the biggest girls in her class...she's quite tall! I have some wonderful video clips I want to share of our little singer...but can't upload it from my phone so have to figure out how to upload it another way!
I had a few doctor's appointments myself this last week. I found a little lump in my arm (i actually thought it was a bruise initially because it was write painful) but realized that there was no bruising - only a lump that hurt. Iwaited the weekend, then went to the medicenter to check it out. After an ultrasound check up the doc said I've got some type of a cyst in there, and thankfully, it seems to be benign...so that's good! I've decided not to have it removed just yet. I want to give it a bit to see if it goes away on its own, then decide later if it doesn't.
Anyway, that's a little snippet of our life. Hope you all have a wonderful day tomorrow. And enjoy Valentine's Day! I'm taking the advice of another blogger I follow and i'm taking my hubby out for a "man's day"! I'll try to spoil him a bit...he deserves it. He's been putting lots of hours in at the office these days. Hope he enjoys what I've got planned!

Sewing Machine
As in...I am the sewing machine! I've been working on patching up Scott's old jeans. He's been holding on to them for so long and refuses to throw them out. They're his favourites...all 7 pairs of them! You know how it is when you've worn them in just right and they're perfectly comfortable. So I understand why he's reluctant to part with them; however, patching jeans is a lot trickier than you'd think. Mainly because you have to manage all that jean fabric in a tiny little space in the sewing machine. As you can see, my patch job may not be the prettiest...but it does the trick!! Even if it's not perfect, I expect him to say "Thank you dear, they're just right" and wear them with a smile!! ;) And he will, bless his heart. After I finish with the work...I'm moving on to the fun projects! Annika's little dress is next! Woo hoo!
Hope you had a great weekend!

Google = Cool
Anybody else out there use Google Reader? I absolutely love using it!! I've got the mobile version for my phone and it's so handy to be able to take a glance at one screen and see all of the updates for the blogs I follow...and there are so many out there to follow!!
I'm tellin' ya, if you haven't tried it, please do!! I've been checking out what I can do with my google profile too...so I've been sharing posts that interest me and "liking" things and "starring" other posts that I want to go back to later. Anyhoo...it's a good way to waste some time, so check it out if you can. You have to set up a gmail account or google account, but it's relatively simple...and most importantly, FREE. If you enjoy surfing the blogosphere, this is a great way of keeping on top of new posts without opening more tabs/windows to view multiple blogs.
I had great plans of coming home and doing some sewing but I don't think it's in the cards for me tonight. I'm tired. Kind of emotionally drained...it was a tiring day - we'll leave it at that.
I hope you all have a good week. I'm trying to avoid temptation (those delicious little cookies I baked yesterday are calling my name). Maybe I'll have just one teensy little cookie...can't be that bad for me right?!? :)

Another Week
Well...here's three posts in a row...how's that for getting back in the swing of things?! :)
It was a good weekend. We had some nice family snuggles...i love lazy weekend mornings! We also spent some time playing outside (Annika loves being "side" to play). Daddy threw her in a snowbank...she was not impressed. Not at all.
The snow plows finally made it down our street today and it looks pretty clear out there, except for the 9 foot piles of snow in our corners. At least we can get in and out of our driveways now...it wasn't looking good for a couple hours this afternoon!
We baked some chocolate chip cookies this afternoon and took a couple dozen to our next door neighbors...we've been lucky to have them come over and snow blow our sidewalks and driveway...yay! Scott really wants to buy a new snowblower. He has been spending lots of time online looking for a smoking deal on one. He's also been eyeing up new suv's...pricey ones like bmws and porsches! Lol...boys and their toys. I'll let him dream...but that's where it stops - in dreamland. ;)
I am looking forward to a beautiful sunshiny week. I hope you all have an opportunity to get out and enjoy the fresh air! This week my new rotary cutters that I ordered from ebay should arrive! I'm so excited!
Chao for now!

More snow!
I can't believe there's still more snow left up there to dump down on us! More snow yesterday evening...it's nuts. Today I was able to get some things checked off my "to-do"list, finally. Did some vacuuming, cleaned bathrooms, did laundr (well, started it at least). Feeling pretty good about the day. Even managed to make a broccoli salad and some sesame breadsticks...mmmm. And last night I made a yummy banana zucchini bread that turned out just right.
This evening we went over to a friend's place for turducken...anybody ever tried that before? It was pretty good! Tonight was not a good night for calorie counting Penny. Yikes. Maybe tomorrow I'll spend some time on the elliptical to work it off. Maybe.
Heather and I managed to cut some more strips got her quilt...we still have a good ways to go though. I have way too many projects to do, and not enough time to get them all started! :)
Tomorrow we'll be checking out our old place to see how the tile work looks. Let's hope it all came together well!
Enjoy your Sunday...night night all!

Avoiding the List
I wrote a list of things to do a week or so ago - mainly focused on things I want to clean/do in the house. Today was a busy morning and I managed to check off not one thing on my list! Sheesh. I took the van in for an oil change, which it was in desperate need of, and I picked up some cleaning things at the dollar store and we filled up with gas and had a bite to eat with Scott. None of those things were on my list. So i think I"ll make a day of it and I'll continue doing a bunch of stuff that's not on my list! Like sewing! Tee hee...I'm starting to pin out the pattern for Annika's summer dress. I'm really looking forward to working on that and figuring out my way around a sewing machine again. It's been ages and ages since I've done any sewing...and I'm excited to use the wonderful new machine that my in-laws bought me!! I'm the most spoiled DIL in the world!! :) I'm a lucky girl.
I also think I'll bake some banana muffins...I may even use a squash in my muffins. I was inspired by a friend, Holly, who made a butternut squash/banana loaf...doesn't that sound great?! Mmmm!
I purchased some rotary cutters on ebay last weekend and I was hoping they'd arrive by the weekend so that Heather and I can do some serious work on her quilt. Alas, they haven't arrived yet and I'm beginning to lose hope. Sigh. Guess I may just have to go and buy another one. Oooh, this isn't such a bad problem after all if I can somehow work a trip to Michael's or Fabricland!
My wonderful friend Sandy sent me a link to a site that is hosting a competition for a brand new sewing machine!!! You have to sew a pot holder and send in your picture of what you sew as an entry! So I may just do that. One can always use a FREE sewing machine, dontcha think? Here's the link if you'd like to check it out. http://www.prudentbaby.com/2011/01/contest-sewing-machine-double-down.html Anyone want to join me for a night of sewing pot holders?! LOL! :)
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.
